On January 10th, 2024 Hatfield Broad Oak opted to prepare a Neighbourhood Plan. This will allow us to address local issues and consider what residents would like to see happen in our community both now and over the next 20 years.
Neighbourhood Plans offer a fantastic opportunity for you to have more influence over how the place in which you live or work will change over time. Your local knowledge, your sense of what needs to be protected and what needs to change, can really make a difference.
Once the Neighbourhood Plan has been completed, all villagers will be invited to vote on whether to accept the Plan in a referendum to be organised by Uttlesford District Council. Once accepted, the Plan will become a legal document, and planning decisions must show reference to the policies in it.

The parish of Hatfield Broad Oak has been designated as a Neighbourhood Plan Development Area.
The Hatfield Broad Oak Neighbourhood Plan is being compiled by local residents and the Parish Council. It establishes a vision for the evolution and long-term sustainability of Hatfield Broad Oak Parish and village. The plan sets out a vision for the future of the parish and planning policies which will be used to determine planning applications locally.
The Parish of Hatfield Broad Oak is one of the largest in Essex. It includes 95 listed buildings or groups of listed buildings, including the Grade II* Barrington Hall and its 18th century landscaped park. Further to the north of the village is Hatfield Forest, a National Nature Reserve and the last small medieval Royal Forest to remain virtually intact.
